So basically, a small group of white crazy West Virginians decide to capture and torture a black woman in their home. Two pairs of the six people are mother/daughter as well as mother/son.
I don’t really know what else to say except for that is some sick shit. I don’t understand why the investigators are ‘considering’ it to be a hate crime instead of just naming it as a hate crime*…obviously, when you tell someone that the reason they’re being tortured is because they’re a ‘nigger’, as well as call them one while repeatedly sexually assaulting and stabbing them, it’s a hate crime.
UPDATES:
* 9/11: So a few news program have clarified why this isn’t going to be charged as a hate crime. ABC reports that a hate crime technically isn’t as severe in punishment as state court prosecution. This way, the perpetrators get more enhanced penalties, which makes sense in the long run. USA Today also shows why it’s better if this is a state charge instead of a hate crime charge.
* 9/12: The black survivor, Megan Williams, was not a random target. News has been uncovered and it seems as though she knew one of the males involved in the disgusting act of sadism.
* 9/13: Black representatives and leaders from church across Charleston, W. Virgina are wondering why the courts aren’t pressing hate-crime charges against the suspects. According to the Houston Chronicle, hate-crime charges carry only up to 10 years in West Virginia, while kidnapping counts maximum life and sexual assault counts for maximum 35 years. Anything wrong with that picture to you ? Only 35 years maximum for rape ?
